HSMS Haiti

After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, a small group of inspired individuals were deployed to provide assistance on the ground.  It has since evolved into a certified non-profit organization and year round ministry in Jeremie, Haiti. Hurricane Matthew hit in 2016 and relief efforts are ongoing to make a long-term impact in the community.  The primary programs that we are focused on are: Boarding School, Home Building, Seed Program, and Women's Sex Trade Ministry.

The main goal for HSMS (Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength) Haiti in 2017 was to get the boarding school up and running in the fall. God has blessed us in making our goal come true! The boarding school's purpose is to maintain family unity, protect children from dangerous situations, and develop future leaders to positively impact their community. Our boarding school currently has 14, 1st grade students enrolled.

SMS workers are dedicated to ensuring efficient usage of all donated funds for the stated programs as well as providing long-term sustainable support in the community. Everything that HSMS Haiti has been able to accomplish can fully be attributed to the power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ.  We strive to acknowledge God in all our ways and share the joy and hope of salvation with those around us.

Lindsay Anderson, Founder and Director of Operations, and Melissa Lull, Director of Education, are currently serving on the ground in Jérémie, Haiti as Rock Ambassadors, to further the growth of the HSMS programs and ministries.

After the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, Hopestart founder, Fredrick Clerie felt God was calling him back to his birthplace to help make a difference in a country that was already wracked by natural and economic disasters. Fredrick Clerie was born in Jérémie, but left at the age of 17 and received a technical education in the U.S. He worked many years for pharma and biotech companies but now returns to Haiti five to six times a year to help bring about real change and "lighten the load" of his brothers and sisters.

Hopestart International, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that Fredrick Clerie founded to help make disadvantaged Haitian children rise, thrive and become leaders who can positively impact the future of Haiti. Founded on hope and compassion and a strong commitment to building a better and self-sustaining future for the people of Haiti. The vision of our organization is simple: to break the cycles of poverty, hunger, abuse, and disease that are still significant barriers for Haitian youth who want to acquire the education and skills necessary to become independent and significant contributors to a brighter, more prosperous future.

Serving as a Rock Ambassador, Mollee Long, has been on the ground serving at HopeStart since September 2016.
