Looking back at my life, one thing has always been apparent to me: life doesn’t go the way you plan. Ten years ago, I thought I was going to be married out of high school. When that didn’t happen, I thought I’d find my husband during college. I thought I would become a high school English teacher and coach the dance team. I thought I would still be in Illinois raising a family by this time in my life. But four years ago, when I moved to San Diego, I decided to let go of my own hopes and dreams and let God guide my steps. That’s when I learned, the plans God has for my life far exceed the desires and expectations I’ve ever had for my own life. Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understandings. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.”
I graduated from Rock Church’s IMPACT195 School of Ministry in April 2015. IMPACT195 stirred up my passion for the mission field. In December 2014, I went on my first international mission trip to Jérémie, Haiti. Going on that trip helped strip the scales off my eyes to see real, genuine hope, faith, and love for Jesus. After that trip, I knew I was being called to the mission field. When and where were the questions I was waiting for God to answer.
This past June, I was given an opportunity to intern at Enpak - Rock Church’s School of Ministry of Jérémie, Haiti - I said yes! Ten years ago, I didn’t see my life heading in this direction, but as I walk into the unknown day after day with nothing but trust and faith in Jesus, I am more and more confident that each step has been directed by God. Life doesn’t go the way we try to plan, but if it did, we would miss out on so much good that God has in store for us.
Come September 28th, I will be traveling to Jérémie, Haiti for a nine month internship to serve alongside the current team who reopened the school of ministry just this year. Our mission for Enpak is to raise up disciples and bring the tangible hope and love of Jesus Christ to the people of Haiti. I will be serving full time at Enpak behind the scenes, helping to operate and coordinate the school and its program. IMPACT195 transformed my life; it brought me closer to Jesus than I could have ever imagined. Now, I am blessed to be a part of the life transformation the people of Haiti will get to experience.
